Chris Gilmour is the driving force behind Powertrain Services and is well known throughout the industry as being a specialist when it comes to earthmoving and mining transmissions and powertrain components.
Chris commenced his career 23 years ago when he started a Diesel Fitter apprenticeship with Hastings Deering. At the completion of this apprenticeship he embarked on a journey that saw him work in Canada, Africa, PNG and South America. The key career highlights while working abroad was the position of supervisor controlling the delivery and commission of a new 30 unit fleet of Caterpillar equipment in PNG and being appointed Maintenance Manager at a Bauxite mine in Guyana. On returning to Australia Chris joined a large contact mining company as leading hand at their specialized component rebuild facility. The key focus was overseeing a team of specialized fitters responsible for the overhaul of the company’s extensive exchange components for their large late model fleet. To ensure a high level of support for the 24/7 fleet, planning and reusability was priority.
It was during this time Chris identified the need for an alternative when it came to the bench testing and adjusting of transmissions and torque converters. Utilizing his knowledge of powertrain systems, Chris designed and manufactured a test bench that provided a platform to ensure extensive testing and adjusting to OEM specifications was possible.
During his career Chris has worn the dealer hat, miner hat and contract miner hat. This experience has taught him that one sizes does not fit all and that flexible overhaul options are sometimes required.
Chris says
Earthmoving equipment systems are more complex than ever, that is why I believe that by specializing in transmission’s we know them intimately and focus our skills, workshop and procedures around this. The result is a high quality product
